An area of Golden Gate Park slated to be named after the late actor Robin Williams was the site of a violent crime Tuesday afternoon, when a gang of seven men attacked and robbed a fellow park-goer.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the trouble began at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, in Golden Gate Park's Sharon Meadow, which is located on the east side of the park not too far from the Haight.
Police say that a 39-year-old man was approached by seven males in their 20s. The gang knocked the victim to the ground, police say, then hit him "several times."
The seven men then took their victim's property, and fled on foot.
The victim's face was injured in the attack, but he declined transport to the hospital. As of Wednesday morning, his attackers remain at large.
