A man was struck and killed by a BART train Friday evening, leading to some service delays and a two-hour shutdown of 16th Street Station. As Mission Local reports, the incident happened at 7:22 p.m., and the station was closed from approximately 7:30 p.m. until 9:32 p.m., when normal service resumed.

BART police at the scene would not discuss the incident, apparently, and CBS 5 reported last night that it was "too soon to know how or why the victim ended up on the train tracks." But BART spokesperson Alicia Trost confirmed the death on the media voicemail line, saying only that BART police interviewed witnesses at the scene and said "there’s no foul play or accident-type scenarios involved in this situation." So, likely a suicide, though "Only the coroner can confirm the cause of death."

There were systemwide delays due to the station closure, though trains continued to run through the station without stopping, and some BART trains were being turned around at Montgomery Station in order to ease congestion.
