Believing, probably correctly, that the name Spaghetti Bros. had pigeonholed them into being a spaghetti restaurant, the owners of the ten-month-old Marina restaurant in the former Republic space are rebranding themselves with a name that has some historic connection to the neighborhood: Maybeck's. "We’re not just pasta," says co-owner Aaron Toensing to Inside Scoop, saying that he and partner Erik Lowe had been hearing for a while from regulars that the name didn't go with their varied, seasonal California cuisine.
The menu indeed looks like a classic neighborhood spot, with seafood, fried chicken, salads, steak, a pork chop, and yes, five pastas.
Now, they will take on the surname of Palace of Fine Arts architect Bernard Maybeck, with permission from his family, and be rechristened with new signage as of September 6, right after Labor Day.
Lowe tells Inside Scoop they're still happy with the concept and the menu as is, but they feel like this change will only benefit them.
Maybeck’s - 3213 Scott Street at Lombard - Open for dinner at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to Sunday, and for Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
