Over a month after a violent altercation cost a bartender his finger, the San Francisco Police Department's search for the sharp-toothed suspect has been unsuccessful. So now the SFFD is hoping you can help, by releasing photos and video of the bartender's alleged attacker.
According to the SFFD, the crime went down on at 2:15 a.m. on July 17, outside a bar on the 1900 block of Lombard Street, which is between Webster and Buchanan Streets.
The suspect, police say, had visited the bar earlier in the evening, and decided post-closing that he needed to get back in. The bartender, according to the SFPD, "told the suspect that the bar was now closed and that he was not allowed back inside."
Undeterred, the suspect then "attempted to re-enter the bar through a small window, but was stopped by the victim before making entry," according to police.
Police say that the suspect then returned to the front door, and began kicking and pulling it, in an apparent rage. When the bartender went outside to tell him to knock it off, police say that the "suspect then attacked the bartender, climbing on top of the victim and striking him in the face multiple times."
Though the bartender briefly gained an advantage in the scuffle by climbing on top of the suspect, "the suspect then bit and severed one of the victim's fingers."
The suspect then allegedly fled, joined by his "friends who were still inside the bar," and remains on the loose as of Monday morning, when the SFFD released two videos from the scene of the attack.
In the first video, police say, the suspect is "eating while wearing a pink shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes." Here it is:
In the second, he "is seen with his shirt off, talking and tussling with one of his friends who is wearing a black leather jacket."
Police say that the suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 6’0”, weighing 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. If you recognize him or have any information on this case, police ask that you call their anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or text-a-tip to TIP411, beginning the text with SFPD.
As for the victim: According to the SFPD, he was transported to the hospital where he was treated for "swollen eyes, contusions to his head, scrapes on his hand and an amputated finger." NBC Bay Area reports that the bartender has since recovered, and has returned to work.
