Barbra Streisand, currently on tour despite many earlier threats/promises that she was retiring, went on NPR's Weekend Edition with Scott Simon on Saturday to discuss her new album of duets called Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway. Among the items covered on the show: Streisand was irked that Siri has been mispronouncing her name all this time, saying "Stry-zand" instead of how Barbra insists she's been telling people to pronouncing it, as "'Streisand’ with a soft ‘s’ like sand on a beach I’ve been saying this for my whole career." So, she says, she got Tim Cook on the horn, and while we need not make assumptions about his being a fan simply because he's gay, according to Babs, "He delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of name, finally, with the next update on September 30th."
This update, as Fortune notes, hasn't actually been publicly announced by Apple, but that sounds like it's the planned rollout date for iOS 10, in conjunction with the release of the iPhone 7.
"Let’s see if that happens," says Barbra, knowing full well it's happening, "because I will be thrilled."
Barbra played a Bay Area show, at San Jose's SAP Center, on August 4, and she continues to perform in support of the album, which features duets with the likes of ollaborators include Anne Hathaway, Chris Pine, Alec Baldwin, Jamie Foxx, Melissa McCarthy, Antonio Banderas, Seth MacFarlane, and Hugh Jackman.
Below, a video posted to Instagram of Barbra's recording session with Alec Baldwin on the Sondheim song, "The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me."
