A Berkeley man stands accused of a drug-fueled vehicular rampage that targeted the final resting place of our country's military veterans. CBS 5 reports that the 29-year-old man drove his car through the closed gates of the Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno and over the graves of "dozens" of veterans.
According to the East Bay Times, police first received reports of a crash occurring around 9:20 p.m. Sunday night. When they arrived, they found Pierce Jagger inside a "severely damaged vehicle."
Police say an investigation revealed Jagger drove over dozens of graves on a grassy hill, and even tried to drive his car up granite steps. Jagger was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and driving on a suspended license. He could face charges of felony vandalism.
Golden Gate National Cemetery, the National Cemetery Administration informs us, was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 30, 1942.
