A patron of the San Francisco Opera is recovering today, after she was violently mugged last night as she was leaving the performance venue.

It was 10:45 p.m. Thursday evening when the victim, a 64-year-old-woman, "was leaving the opera with her husband," police say, on the 600 block of Van Ness Avenue.

Suddenly, the victim was approached by a woman on her 40s, who pushed her to the ground, causing the victim to violently smack her head on the pavement.

The mugger then stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim's purse as the latter lay, stunned, on the sidewalk.

The suspect then fled north on Van Ness, and hasn't been seen since. The victim, who told responders she was suffering from "pain to head," was transported to a local hospital with injuries the San Francisco Police Department characterizes as non-life threatening.

As of Friday morning, no arrests have been made in the case. Police ask that if you know anything about this attack and mugging, you call SFPD's Anonymous Tip Line at 415-575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
