An elderly San Francisco man is recovering from a lost digit today, after a driver struck him as he walked in a Fillmore Street crosswalk.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, the 69-year-old man was headed east on McAllister when he stepped into the crosswalk at Fillmore Street at 9:16 p.m. Friday.

A 49-year-old woman driving a four-door, black Acura sedan was headed west on McAllister and struck the man as she turned south onto Fillmore, police say.

That intersection is governed by traffic signals, not stop signs. A call to SFPD to confirm that both the driver and pedestrian were crossing on the green light/pedestrian walk signal was not returned at publication time.

The man suffered lacerations to the head and a severed thumb in the crash, according to the SFPD. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries police describe as "non-life-threatening."

The driver remained at the scene, police say, and was not arrested for the collision.
