Yet again BART riders faced a maddening delay this morning starting 8:00 a.m. on the Pittsburg-to-SFO line, but this time it wasn't BART's fault. As KRON 4 reports, Walnut Creek police were pursuing a suspect in a vehicle starting at 7:49 a.m., and the chase ended when the suspect crashed into a fence along the BART tracks near Pleasant Hill Station, at Jones Road and Walden Road. The crash caused the fence to get pushed three feet into the track area, which resulted in a half-hour delay on the line — and likely some people late for their flights at SFO this morning.

As the Chronicle tells us, the chase began with a botched burglary on the 2300 block of Walnut Boulevard where police arrived after receiving a call, possibly from a neighbor, about a burglary in progress. They arrived in time to find the suspect in the front yard, and he hopped in his car and began speeding away northbound with Walnut Creek cops in pursuit.

The chase ended ten minutes later with the dramatic crash, and the bloodied suspect getting out of the car and trying to flee on foot, but he was soon apprehended by officers. After being treated for his injuries, the suspect will be arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, hit-and-run, and evasion, among other things.

BART resumed normal service in the area by 9 a.m., however residual delays are still being felt throughout the system.
