Tonight at the Mr. Marina competition, a yearly roast of local frat-bro culture, they will perform feats of strength and tests of talent. But in a more remarkable twist, this year's crop of cis-douche contestants attempted to prove the unthinkable: That they have a sense of humor about themselves.

In a take off on the popular Jimmy Kimmel Live segment in which celebrities read mean tweets about them, the Mr. Marina hopefuls exercised their quasi-literacy — and thick skin — by narrating some of the comments posted to SFist's earlier article about the competition, from January. They even attempted to formulate responses, the poor darlings!

Mr. Marina, held at the Regency Ballroom this evening, has raised $525,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society since its inception in 2012. But of perhaps equal importance, the contest has raised important questions about masculine fragility and performative gender. At last year's event, for example, I found myself wondering: Who the fuck are these tools? JK! I kid. See you in the comments.
