A Fisherman's Wharf shopkeeper was left beaten and pepper sprayed Saturday, after he tried to stop a salami thief from absconding with the sausage.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the crime went down on the 100 block of Jefferson Street, in the tourist-rich environs of Fisherman's Wharf.
A shopkeeper tells police that a 20something man entered his establishment at 7:24 p.m. Saturday and "concealed a bottle of beer and a stick of salami in his jacket" then left.
When the 35-year-old clerk stopped the thief to question him about the concealed goods, the shoplifter punched and pepper sprayed the victim in the face.
The store's staffer was transported to the hospital with a laceration to his eye, and is expected to survive. The violent sausage swiper fled and hasn't been seen since.
