Stunt moves are what drive Game of Thrones, the popular television show based on the books of George R.R. Martin that relies heavily on scenes of extreme violence, sexual violence, and mostly female nudity.

Now, and in that vein, HBO prepares to "celebrate," (which is public relations codespeak for promote the crap out of) the release of the show's fifth Season on DVD with a virtual dragon flight stunt thing in San Francisco. Also, presumably, they're promoting the show itself, which premieres its sixth season on April 24 on HBO. (You may recall that last year, the show took over San Francisco's War Memorial Opera House for their Season 5 red carpet premiere.)

First, they're preparing what's supposed to look like a dragon landing/crash site at Pier 39. You can visit that tomorrow, March 17th, starting at 8 am, snapping photos and using the prescribed hashtag #GOT5DVD. Yes, that is a hashtag about a #DVD.

Our New York wing at Gothamist.com said a similar marketing move there looked confusingly like routine construction. That "landing site" was previously installed in Manhattan's Union Square.

Expect skid marks and torn up concrete, or something, implying a dragon landing. Then, at around 8 p.m. tomorrow, the dragon itself — a 3D animated projection — will soar across the city starting at Civic Center, as dragons tend to do when the DVD of a popular and lucrative show is released.
