A man is learning out how to live a bare-headed lifestyle this week, after a Castro-area altercation ended with the theft of his hat.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, the 49-year-old victim of the hat theft was walking his bike near 18th and Hartford (which is between Castro and Noe) at 8 p.m. Monday night when a man in his 30s approached him and punched him in the face.

The victim defended himself, and additional blows were struck on both sides. At some point, the victim's hat fell off, SFPD says.

That's when the attacker "took the hat and ran," SFPD says.

But that's not the end of the tale! According to police, the men "met again down the block and fought more." This time, the instigator tried to take the victim's bicycle...but he failed, and "fled on foot with only the hat."

The suspect hasn't been seen since, and no arrests have been made in this case. The now-hatless victim suffered a non-life-threatening "swollen cheek," and is expected to recover.
