New photos depicting the post-crash interior of the sightseeing bus that careened out of control this past November were released on Friday. At this time it is believed that mechanical failures were likely to blame, but a full report by the California Highway Patrol has yet to be completed.
Twenty people were injured in the November 13 crash, with four initially reported as left in critical condition.
The photographs were released by the attorney of the bus driver, who told KRON 4 the driver "suffered a badly broken ankle, two back fractures, broken ribs, and torn knee ligaments" as a result of the crash.
At the time of the incident, SFPD Chief Greg Shur told KRON 4 that the police had ruled out drug and alcohol impairment in the driver as a contributing factor in the crash.
The photos, which are included in the below embedded video, show a badly damaged interior, and serve to highlight how awful the crash truly was.
The bus was operated by City Sightseeing — a tour company that had a fleet of 27 vehicles at the time of the collision — and appeared to be operating without a permit the day it sped out of control. Also troubling, the license plate on the crashed bus reportedly belonged to a different bus — raising all kinds of questions about the fleets' permitting.
