Fancy yourself a real go-getter? Someone who can effectively be a liaison between commercial interests and regulatory bodies while effectively putting to use your master's degree in public policy? Do you also happen to be a connoisseur of that sticky-icky? Well then do we have a job opportunity for you. The state of California Department of Consumer Affairs is looking to hire a head for The Bureau of Medical Marijuana Regulation.
The official job title? "Chief."
The knowledge and abilities required of the weed Chief are made clear in a a job listing helpfully posted by Oaksterdam University, and suggest the Department is in search of a high-functioning individual.
"Applicants must demonstrate the ability to perform high level administrative and policy functions effectively," the job posting reads. "The ability to plan, develop, organize and direct the work of the multidisciplinary professional and administrative staff" is considered crucial to the role.
CBS San Francisco spoke with the Chancellor of Oaksterdam University, Dale Sky Jones, about the importance of finding the proper person for the job.
“It’s important that we have someone who can work across the aisle,” said Jones. “Not just partisan, from Democrats to Republicans, but between the regulators and the industry.”
However, who that person might be was not immediately clear to Jones.
"[Whoever] takes the job is probably going to have a target on their head," ventured Jones.
The job, which pays $9,634 to $10,734 a month, is really about understanding how Sacramento works, says CBS San Francisco political analyst Melissa Caen.
"You’d rather has someone that is good on policy. Because the industry can in some degree be taught,” explained Caen. “But having the right connections in Sacramento, understanding the state bureaucracy, that is something that is going to be key.”
Interested parties should apply directly to the Governor's office. Good luck.
