A wild police chase came to an end with an officer-involved shooting on Treasure Island after a suspect stole an SFPD SUV.
Sources close to the investigation tell NBC Bay Area that the suspect stole the SFPD SUV from Chestnut and Lyon Streets. According to an SFPD press release, officers responded to area around 8:15 a.m. after reports of a man with a knife. During a foot pursuit, the suspect entered an SFPD vehicle with the key in the ignition and led officers on a chase through the city streets. The suspect caused several hit-and-run crashes as he was chased by officers.

The chase wound up all the way to Treasure Island, where officers fired at the vehicle when it tried to drive around the gate, which the police had secured. Nobody was hit by the gunfire.

The suspect drove back towards an on-ramp in an attempt to get onto the westbound direction of the bridge. He rammed another car at the stop sign and then bailed from the police vehicle, jumping from the on-ramp and onto the lower deck, 30 to 40 feet below. On the lower deck, the suspect attempted to carjack another vehicle, but was stopped and subsequently arrested by a police officer who also jumped onto the lower deck.

According to the release from SFPD, two officers, the suspect, and another motorist were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The last SFPD officer-involved shooting took place on October 15 in near 8th and Market Streets. Officers reportedly shot the suspect during a confrontation.
