Chef Michael Gaines, who cut his teeth in the kitchen at Manresa in Los Gatos and was the opening chef at Kin Khao and chef de cuisine at Central Kitchen looks to be breaking out on his own with a casual tacos-and-margaritas concept called Glena's, per Inside Scoop. Gaines announced his departure from Kin Khao last month, though he'll remain on staff there until the new year, as the Scoop reported, and for now, without a space locked down, he is doing some preview pop-ups for Glena's, including a $74/person ticketed affair (including cocktails) on Thursday night, with multiple courses, which currently has a dozen seats left.
Gaines has won rave reviews for the modern Thai food at Kin Khao, some of which comes from family recipes from owner Pim Techamuanvivit. As he transitions away from the kitchen there, things are expected to stay pretty much the same, with his right-hand man Narciso Salvador taking over as executive chef.
We'll update you as we learn more about Glena's, which hopefully we will see open sometime next year.
