San Francisco State University Police are seeking an "unknown man" after a woman was attacked in a seemingly-random case of sexual battery on campus, at least the second such incident this year.

According to an email sent to the SF State community, at 7 p.m. Wednesday a female student "was walking on the campus pathway between Burk Hall and the Gymnasium when she was approached by an unknown male suspect who started a conversation with the victim."

When the woman walked into the lobby of Burk Hall, the man followed her, then "grabbed the victim above her hips, lifted her up, and pressed his face against her stomach and breasts while he lowered her to the ground."

He then "sat the victim on a bench in the lobby, held onto her hand, and kissed her on her face several times," SF State's Title IX Coordinator Luoluo Hong says.

The victim pulled away from her assailant and escaped to a nearby Muni platform. The man "followed behind the victim until she was able to board a bus and leave campus," Hong says.

The next day, the victim contacted SF State's police department to report the incident. She was not injured in the attack, Hong says.

The victim describes the suspect as approximately 20-23 years old, with a slender build and standing at about 6 feet tall.

She says he's "light complexioned," with brown eyes and brown hair. He was wearing a dark green hoodie-style sweat shirt during the attack.

This is not the first such assault in that area: According to the Golden Gate Xpress, back in February an "unknown male" pushed a woman into the bushes near Burk Hall, "where he then held an unknown sharp object against the victim’s side as he groped her breasts and groin."

The suspect in the February attack has not been identified, nor have any arrests been made, and the same is true of Wednesday's assault. Hong says that SF State police are actively seeking witnesses to this week's incident, asking anyone who saw or heard "any part of this incident or may have further suspect information" to "please come forward" by contacting the SFSU Police Department at (415) 338-2222 or their anonymous tip line at (415) 338-3030.
