14-year-old NASA enthusiast and budding inventor Ahmed Mohamed may not have found an audience for his homemade clock at MacArthur High Shool in Irving Texas (where he was arrested for being a Muslim) but he found a warmer reception among the nerd élite of Silicon Valley.

As promised last week, Mohamed was welcomed as a special guest at Google's Mountain View headquarters for their annual Science Fair, a competition open to students ages 13 to 18 from around the world.

CBS SF reports that Mohamed toured Google, appraised the work of the 20 finalists, and attending the award ceremony.

“I think it just makes us glad that he’s having a good time, and that he can be with kids that are interested in the same things that he is," said Google’s Brand Marketing Lead Miriam Schneider. "These young scientists... are really going to change our future."

As the BBC reports, Mohamed has also left MacArthur High. That should free him up to visit the White House, from which he's also received an invitation.

"I built a clock to impress my teacher but when I showed it to her she thought it was a threat to her," Mohamed said at a press conference. "I'm very sad that she got the wrong impression of it."
