True to form, Steve Wozniak sat down for a lengthy interview with a 9th grader in Florida and was decidedly candid about his former business partner and colleague Steve Jobs, and the early days of Apple. The young journalist who snagged the interview is ambitious 14-year-old Sarina Khemchandani, who started a website at her school called Reach A Student, and her earnest intro to the interview which you can hear below is quite cute.
In the above third part of the interview, Wozniak says, outright, "Steve Jobs played no role at all in any of my designs of the Apple I and Apple II computer and printer interfaces and serial interfaces and floppy disks and stuff that I made to enhance the computers. He did not know technology." That's pretty big stuff given that Job has always been known as a visionary of sorts, but perhaps this is not big news to Apple nerds who already know all this history.
Wozniack adds, "He’d never designed anything as a hardware engineer, and he didn’t know software. He wanted to be important, and the important people are always the business people... The Apple II computer, by the way, was the only successful product Apple had for its first 10 years, and it was all done, for my own reasons for myself, before Steve Jobs even knew it existed."
Watch Parts 1 and 2 of the interview below, in which he talks about his life as a student.
