A day after the shooting of a tourist near San Francisco's iconic crooked portion of Lombard Street, police have identified the men they say are responsible for the crime.

As previously reported, at 12:09 p.m. Tuesday, a tourist was shot at Lombard and Jones Streets, about a block from Lombard's famous crooked portion.

The Chron reports that two men stole the tourist's camera then "shot him in the shoulder when he started to chase them."

β€œThe person was here on vacation from overseas, and essentially was just out taking pictures on Lombard Street at the time,” San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Albie Esparza says.

The suspects then sped from the shooting in a red sedan. According to Esparza, the fleeing vehicle was spotted by police on the Bay Bridge, and were pursued by SFPD, California Highway Patrol, Emeryville police and Oakland police into the Oakland/Emeryville area.

CHP tracked the car to the 1000 block of 60th Street near the Emeryville-Oakland border, Esparza says, and nabbed a man identified today as 24-year-old San Francisco resident Brian Fox.

The second suspect fled on foot, and was eventually "cornered by canine units in the backyard" of 1046 60th Street in Oakland, Esparza says. He was identified today as 25-year-old Eric Anthony Espanol, also of San Francisco.

According to SFPD spokesperson Officer Carlos Manfredi, the victim, who was reportedly visiting SF from Thailand, was released from San Francisco General Hospital on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, his alleged attackers have both have been arrested and booked into San Francisco Country Jail.

Due to the ongoing investigation, Esparza says, their booking photos are being kept under wraps for now, but perhaps we can expect more information later today β€” according to an email from District 3 Supervisor Julie Christensen's office, Christensen and SFPD Chief Greg Suhr will be holding a joint press conference at the shooting site at 3:15 this afternoon.
