Friday At Outside Lands 2015: St. Vincent, D'Angelo, And More

Outside Lands 2015: Day One will be remembered for its rare, not-even-that-brief moments of sun.

Though a truly special and wonderful spectacle, the warm weather didn't last forever. It carried through a cheery set from Broods but the air finally cooled and the sky darkened when St. Vincent took the stage for a standout set. As she has been on her tour, Ms. Vincent saluted the "others," the doms, the subs, etc. — a schtick that went over particularly well in leather-friendly San Francisco.

Other performers shone too. I'm talking about everyone from Lake Street Dive, who killed it with a cover of "Walking on Broken Glass," to Chef Morimoto who took a turn at Karaoke on the GastroMagic stage. Leon Bridges put on a great set, channelling his classic influences, and even Mumford and Sons played that song they have like a million versions of very well.
