Two women are dead this morning, one suspected of murdering the other and then killing herself.

Details are few at this point, but ABC 7 reports that around 6 a.m. today police discovered a dead woman at a residence in Novato. The victim, who was in her 60s, was discovered after a request from a family member for a welfare check.

The woman, who had suffered stab wounds and cuts, was pronounced dead at the scene according to police Lieutenant Oliver Collins. Still, Collins says the cause of her death has not yet been ascertained.

“The victim had obvious signs of trauma, most noticeably stab wounds, but we’re not sure if that was the cause of death until the autopsy is performed,” Novato police Capt. Matt McCaffrey said according to the Marin Independent Journal.

Later this morning, a female family member whom police suspected of killing her relative was found with self inflicted wounds. That woman, in her 30s, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Though police say they are unclear on the relationship between suspect and victim, neighbors have said they were mother and daughter.
