A man is very fortunate that he isn't hamburger meat after a close call with a meat grinder earlier this week.

On Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m., San Luis Obispo firefighters responded to a call at the Vitco processing plant on the 800 block of Capitolio Way. The man in his 20s reached into the hopper of the meat grinder in order to dislodge a piece of meat when his sleeve got caught and the machine started pulling him in. A coworker hit the kill switch after hearing the man scream, seconds away from his arm being pulled into the grinder.

"We believe his co-worker literally saved his life by hitting the kill switch," Battalion Chief Bob Bisson told the San Luis Obispo Tribune. Although lucky to survive the ordeal, the man's arm was fractured in several places.

SLOFD tweeted that the rescue was "challenging" and reports say firefighters had to use machinery to pry open the grinder in order to extract the man.

You might say it was a job... well done!
