If you need a primer on Trump's absolute foolishness, look no further than this piece by David Remnick in The New Yorker. And it's heartening to see a politician with superior hair and policies taking a stand when, as Remnick notes, national politicians won't criticize the billionaire's vanity campaign.
However, misters Matier and Ross — the Chronicle's own investigative Statler and Waldorf — dug in a bit. They couldn't get a comment out of Newsom, but as they point out, the diss was delivered before the Pier 14 murder allegedly committed by a transient Mexican man in the US without documentation who has pleaded not guilty. In his stead, Newsom spokesman Dan Newman called Trump “a punk and a joke, but his racist demagoguery is dangerous.”
