A suspicious death at a residential care facility has the San Francisco Police Department investigating what be San Francisco's 24th homicide for 2015.
According to SFPD spokesperson Officer Grace Gatpandan, police and medics were called to a residential care facility on the 100 block of Aptos Avenue (a two-block street near Aptos Park in Balboa Terrace) at 9 a.m. Sunday, on reports of a possible stabbing.
The Corinthian Garden Residential Care Home is located at 170 Aptos Avenue. It appears to be the only residential care facility on the block, but per SFPD policy Gatpandan could not confirm if that was the location of the suspicious death.
Gatpandan says that when the medics arrived at the scene, they discovered a 78-year-old San Francisco man who they pronounced dead at the scene.
The man appeared to have suffered "suspicious wounds," Gatpandan says. The San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office concurred, and has ruled the death "suspicious."
The ME's office has yet to release the deceased man's identity, citing family notification issues.
It's unclear how long the man had been dead before medics arrived, Gatpandan says. As of publication time, the incident remains under investigation, and no suspects have been identified.
If it's confirmed that this death was a homicide, this would be SF's 24th slaying of 2015.
