In a move that surprised no one, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee filed his reelection papers yesterday morning for a race in which he is basically running unopposed. So today seems like a perfect time to start SFist's new series, "What's Ed Saying Now?," in which we choose our fearless leader's most quotable recent quotes and present them for your admiration, edification, or whatever else you choose to do with them. Shall we begin?
What Ed said: “What I don’t want to see is lawyering up on the public defender’s side and the district attorney’s side just to battle against each other,” Lee said, adding that he didn’t believe 3,000 cases need review. “I think that the DA and the police chief and the Police Commission need to all work closely together,” he said. “I do believe there is a number they have to look at, and they can come to an agreement as to what that is.” — June 1, reported by KQED
What's that about, Ed?: The San Francisco District Attorney's office and the Public Defender's office have been working together (not "lawyering up" against each other, so, wtf?) to review cases possibly compromised by the biases of several San Francisco Police Department officers who sent racist and homophobic texts. However, no funding for that investigation was included in Lee's proposed budget for San Francisco's next two years.
...and, since we're kicking the series off, a bonus quote!

What Ed said: “I never really look ahead.” — June 1, reported by the SF Chronicle
What's that about, Ed?: OH GOD too many jokes! But, OK, for real, this was his response when asked about the difference between the last time he filed papers to run for mayor, after he reneged on his promise not to do so during his "caretaker mayor" appointment, and today, when he's running against a YIMBY, a folk singer, and a journalistic experimenter.
