We already know that everything from teensy condos to hoarder hellholes are selling for well over their asking prices in this sizzling real estate market we're in. But watch what happens when a serious two-unit fixer-upper hits the market on white-hot 18th Street in the Mission, diagonally across from Bi-Rite, for a steal price of $1.099 million.
What happens, as SFGate reports, despite the discouragements of the video below made by realtor Kevin Ho of Vanguard Properties, is that the 2,800-square-foot place sells for $2.35 million, likely after a heated bidding war. That's 114 percent over asking, and most certainly sold to either a new multi-millionaire who'll be gutting this and turning it into a single family home at great expense, or to a developer looking to flip it as two primely located TICs. But as you can see from the video, it's going to require a lot of work before that can happen.
This is 3658-3660 18th Street, and maybe some of you out there know it! The 1908 building looks like it was inhabited by renters for many years who installed some bright green and purple carpet in the upper unit. Lord knows everyone was probably evicted, but perhaps they were bought out.
See some of the condition the place is in below, including weird bathrooms in both units located off of dilapidated sun porches in back.
Also, there's this kitchen which comes with a free jug of wine. See more of the listing here at Zillow.
Update: Several commenters have noted that this building was owned by "the last African American family on the block," and the patriarch who bought the place, John, died somewhere between five and ten years ago. So, perhaps no one was evicted.
