Three days after a man was shot in the face while riding on a San Francisco Municipal Transportation light rail vehicle, a suspect has been arrested...but the San Francisco Police Department has yet to release the suspect's name.

The victim and another man had a confrontation that ended in gunfire at 12:23 p.m. Monday while on the T-Third near Third Street and Palou Avenue. The shooter fled on foot, and the victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with critical injuries.

According to SFPD spokesperson Officer Grace Gatpandan, "during the course of the investigation the suspect was identified," and at around 2 p.m., plainclothes officers and investigators from Bayview Station arrested him at Haight Street and Buena Vista West.

"The suspect has not yet been booked so we are unable to release his identity or booking photo at this time," Gatpandan said Wednesday night, describing him only as "an 18-year-old man." At publication time on Thursday, he had yet to be publicly identified.

Police did, however, release a photo of a handgun they say the suspect had on his person at the time of his arrest (pictured above). SFPD has not confirmed that it was that gun that was used in Monday's crime as of Thursday afternoon.

So why release only partial information now? To calm us down, apparently, as Gatpandan says that they wanted to "assure the community that [the] perpetrator of this violent crime has been taken off the streets."

Meanwhile, the victim remains at SF General in critical condition, but is expected to survive, Bay City News reports.

The investigation is still ongoing, Gatpandan says, and urges anyone with further information on this crime to contact the San Francisco Police Bayview Station Investigation Team at 415-671-2300, the Anonymous Tip Line at 415-575-4444 or text-a-tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the start of the message.
