TUESDAY, APRIL 28

COCKTAILS: Female bartenders led by The European's Shirley Brooks are hosting "No Boys Allowed" — although gentleman are welcome. They're mixing drinks and raising money for La Casa de las Madres, California’s first and the nation’s second shelter dedicated to helping women and children, which has has been providing free and confidential crisis support to survivors of domestic violence for almost 40 years. 490 Geary Street, 8 p.m., Free

STORYTELLING: At Public Works, storytellers and narrative lovers gather like moths to a flame for, yes, the Moth. You might be a fan of the organization's popular podcast, which is kind of standup comedy for storytellers. All the stories are supposed to be true, by the way, and this particular show is StorySLAM: Confusion. 161 Erie Street, 6:30 p.m.,$8-16

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29

COCKTAILS: The Ferry Building becomes a cocktail palace as local mixologists show off the best ingredients of the season in their drinks. The list of names is a who's who of Bay Area bar-tending star power. You receive three full-sized signature cocktails, unlimited sample-size drinks, and tickets for hors d’oeuvres, and then roam the Grand Hall with however many you can carry at one time. San Francisco's Ferry Building Grand Hall, 5:30 p.m., $50 [Update] This event has sold out

MUSIC: Waxahatchee's confessional brand of hipster folk music, which I mean generously, was developed over years playing with her sister in the feminist punk group P.S. Eliot. But striking out on her own in 2012, her lo-fi album American Weekend earned lots of praise, and her most recent album, Ivy Tripp, has been well recieved, too. 859 O'Farrell Street, 7 p.m., $16

THURSDAY, APRIL 30

RECORD RELEASE PARTY: LA band In The Valley Below headlines a show that features Oakland five-piece Waterstrider, who are celebrating an album out this month — and a great one at that. SFist showed off a music video of theirs here, and just to go on the record, they're definitely a Bay Area band to watch. 155 Fell Street, 9 p.m., $13-15

COMEDY: Every Thursday at Cinecave inside Lost Weekend Video, the Mission Position crew gathers to deliver A+ comedy at dirt cheap prices. In particular, I'm a big Kate Willett fan — she's one of the founders — but I think everyone is, no? Also courtesy of FuncheapSF tickets are just $5 with the code FUNCHEAP on Eventbrite. 1034 Valencia Street, 8 p.m, $5-10

FRIDAY, MAY 1

ART: It's time again to explore almost 30 galleries and art spaces as part of Art Murmur, the monthly evening festival where there's lots to see and do and usually plenty to eat. One tip: stop by Classic Cars West, which, if you didn't know, is an awesome boutique vintage car dealership that will soon be expanding with a beer garden and food trucks. 19th Street BART Station, 6 p.m., Free

BURLESQUE: At the eccentric Stork Club, wrap up First Friday with a monthly burlesque show that sometimes includes creepy puppets from Shadow Circus Creature Theater. Guaranteed to be strange! 2330 Telegraph Avenue, 9 p.m., Free

SATURDAY, MAY 2

INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY: Celebrate the day with Books Inc. in the Castro who are, no shit, getting author Dave Eggers there to edit your online dating profile. Yep, there's going to be a line for that. Also, tea with Michelle Tea to be provided. 2275 Market Street, 10 a.m., Free

ACOUSTIC ROCK: And, did we mention cocktails? Oddjob has some great ones, and they're hosting gypsy rockers Walking Spanish for a free, low-tech, acoustic set. 1337 Mission Street, 9 p.m., Free
