These Are The Average Salaries In SF's Top Industries

As the website Nerdwallet rounds them up, San Francisco's top industries pay pretty well. They might even make it possible to live in San Francisco.

In the past we've taken a look at some pretty large stipends for interns at large-ish tech companies, but now, for comparison's sake, here are some of the average salaries among the top industries in the city. Figures come from self-reporting by members of the job reviewing site Glassdoor, by the way.

To the surprise of no one, the three highest-paying positions on average in San Francisco are all in our technology sector. Data scientists earn $127,000 a year, software engineers make $103,000 a year, and database administrators earn $77,000 a year. It should also be noted that median pay for entry-level software engineers here is $97,000 per year.

Next up is health care. Registered nurses here make far more than the national average for the profession of $65,920, earning $91,423 a year according to Glassdoor. And, per salary.com, physician assistants in San Francisco make $115,924 on average per year.

Last, it's finance. The average salary here for a financial analyst, which is often an entry-level position, is $73,751 per year. That's $10,000 more than the national average.

Overall, full-time employees in San Francisco saw their annual salaries jump around 2.8% from the first quarter of 2014 to 2015. That's in contrasted to pay nationally, which went up 1.8% in that time.
