Two teenagers from San Francisco have been arrested in what police are describing as a "brutal" mugging and stabbing that left a 66-year-old man with serious injuries.
According to San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Grace Gatpandan, at around 7 p.m. on Friday March 27, 18-year-old San Franciscan Deandre Gipson and a 17-year-old male from SF (who police won't name due to juvenile laws) allegedly approached their victim on the 300 block of Wayland Street.
Gatpandan says that witnesses saw Gipson and his partner stab the man in his chest, abdomen and wrist during an attempt to rob him. When police arrived, they found the man suffering from life-threatening injuries, and had him transported to the hospital, where he remains today.
Though the suspects had fled, Gatpandan says that "after canvassing the area, officers located two individuals matching the description of the suspects."
One of the teens also had a knife is his possession, Gatpandan says.
"Based on the suspect description, proximity to the crime, witness statements and physical evidence, both suspects were placed under arrest."
Gipson has been booked into SF County Jail on suspicion of robbery, attempted homicide with a knife, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and conspiracy.
The juvenile faces charges of robbery, attempted homicide with a knife, and conspiracy.
Gatpandan says that police continue to gather evidence in the case, and that anyone with additional information about the attack should call Sgt. Marty Bandvik with the San Francisco Police Department’s Bayview Station investigation team at 415-671-2300.
