It appears that Jeb Bush isn't the only conservative figure SF tech gazillionaires Ron Conway and Marc Benioff pal around with: according to former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown, the two are also putting in time with one of our hometown homophobes, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone.
Per Willie's World:
I had the pleasure of meeting Roman Catholic Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone at The Chronicle’s Visionary of the Year ceremony at the Fairmont Hotel the other night. He was being escorted around by tech investor Ron Conway and Salesforce chief Marc Benioff, who shooed him away from me as fast as possible.
In case you're wondering, the Visionary of the Year award is apparently a $10,000 award for "the visionary leader who has made a difference in the Bay Area and beyond." Here's their staff-written press release on the award, which went to Evan Marwell, founder of the nonprofit Education Superhighway "at a gala dinner at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco on Tuesday."
As you might recall, investor/power player Conway was a guest at the former Florida Governor's fundraiser last week. In an earlier meeting with the Republican scion, Salesforce CEO Benioff reportedly read Bush the riot act over his support of Indiana's Religious Freedom act and its impact on LGBT rights.
One must wonder if Benioff spoke as frankly with Cordileone, who is well-known for his bigoted, hateful and frequently-expressed views on gay folks! (That is, when he isn't dumping water on homeless people.)
Then again, if the gala was as gala as they say it was, maybe an escort for Cordileone was necessary? After all, we know how Cordileone likes his holy water. Perhaps Conway and Benioff were just trying to make sure the Archbishop didn't get behind the wheel after tossing back a few.
