A man was sent to San Francisco General Hospital with gunshot wounds Friday, after he was shot as robbers raided his McAllister Street home.
San Francisco's seen a large number of home invasion robberies this year, with four in one January/February weekend alone. In Friday's case, however, the robbers upped the ante, shooting the victim when he offered imperfect compliance with their demands.
It was 11:54 p.m. Friday night when a 49-year-old man who lives on McAllister between Laguna and Webster Streets heard a knock at his front door, SFPD spokesperson Officer Albie Esparza says.
When he answered, two armed men burst in.
“The suspects were there when he opened the door and basically forced their way into the apartment,” police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza told Bay City News.
The men "forced him down to the ground demanding his money, property,” Esparza says.
However, the victim wouldn't stay down, apparently, and “when he stood up, that’s when he was shot” in the leg, leaving him with non-life-threatening injuries that were treated at SF General that night.
The suspects, Esparza says, took the man's wallet and cash before taking off. They haven't been seen since.
Citing the ongoing investigation, Esparza says that no description of the suspects will be made available at this time. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call SFPD's anonymous tip line at 415- 575-4444 or to send a text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the body of the message.
