Coming June 19, the newest Disney/Pixar flick from writer-director Peter Docter (previously of Up, which, yes, was adorable) takes place in San Francisco. Of course, being CGI, Inside Out wasn't exactly shot on location, but it features some SF-located scenes and was made nearby at Pixar's Emeryville HQ.
Really, the movie mostly takes place inside the mind — as the inner voices of a young girl are literally voiced by Amy Poehler (Joy), Mindy Kaling (Disgust), Lewis Black (Anger), Bill Hader (Fear) and Phyllis Smith (Sadness). Talk about type casting, but it's an interesting concept that involved extensive research on emotional intelligence.
In addition to just looking like a fun movie, the trailer has buried in it two particular digs at San Francisco. They are, without spoiling the fun by quoting them, to do with our local pizza and, er, wildlife. In particular, the pizza stereotyping is pernicious and needs to stop, because come on, the pizza here is good now!
