It's not due in theaters until June 2015, but here's the first teaser trailer for Pixar's seriously conceptual new animated movie, Inside Out. It tells the story of the five emotions living inside one little girl's head, all personified by fun little cartoons: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. That may sound like the premise for an absurdist French play from the 1950s, but it is in fact a Pixar movie voiced by Amy Poehler (Joy), Bill Hader (Fear), Mindy Kaling (Disgust, obviously), Lewis Black (Anger), and The Office's own Phyllis Smith (Sadness).
Writer-director Peter Docter (Up) was inspired to make the film after watching his own 11-year-old daughter Elie grow up, as he tells Entertainment Weekly, "from a mischievous girl into a 'quiet' pre-teen." The writing involved extensive research with neurologists into emotional intelligence, and the inner world of this fictional child's head sounds like it's going to be pretty fantastic. "Emotions are completely bonkers," says Docter, "so we wanted to convey that."
