A woman whose baby was found to have meth in its system when it was born three weeks ago just outside Sacramento has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of the infant. The baby, Justice Rees, was reported missing last Monday along with his mother, Samantha Green. Green was then found hysterical, wet, and crying last Tuesday evening, as ABC 7 reports, on the banks of a slough in rural Yolo County, unable to explain what had happened. The baby's body was ultimately found near where she had been crying, under some brush along the shore.

As Fox 40 Sacramento reports, the DA's office filed a criminal complaint against Green today charging her with involuntary manslaughter, though the exact cause of death has not been given. Reportedly "hypothermia or drowning are both possibilities."

It seems that Green had made a claim that she and the baby were abducted, however Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto said in a press conference last week that Green and the infant were the only two people in the vehicle that traveled to the slough last Monday.

The baby's paternal grandmother, Patricia Rees, confirmed to the Sacramento Bee that the infant had meth in his system when he was born, and that Child Protective Services had already been involved. She said both parents had tested clean after a visit by CPS, and "Sammi and [her son] Frank [Rees] were adjusting to being parents of a newborn."

There were no signs of abuse on the infant. Green was arrested on Saturday in connection with the death and is being held on bail. Frank Rees was apparently set to appear in court today on unrelated charges.
