"Hello world?" You may not have noticed this unless you are an avid tweeter, a techie, or a media professional. But Twitter time stood still for a time this evening, and there was much freaking out about this. Talk about talking to yourself on Twitter!
As of 6 p.m. Pacific Time it was possible to see your own tweets, get notifications, DMs, and much more. But the tweets on your feed from others were likely almost an hour old, with some retweets of old tweets in there. Grab your flashlight, I suppose.
Fortunately you can still see this blog post, which I'll update.
Update 6:10 p.m.: Twitter is now down. Never tweet!
Update 6:17: The site is back with a time delay, tweets are now ten to twenty minutes old.
Twitter has posted an comment about this at status.twitter.com and says its engineers are on it.
Update 6:30: Twitter's been back for a few minutes now, and you can breathe a sigh of relief. You can also go back and look at the things people said during the brief twitter blackout. Such as:
While Twitter was down, I shared my thoughts with people I know in real life...IT WAS HORRIBLE.
