When two women driving down Interstate 80 through Northern California's lovely Placer County were allegedly cut off by a woman in a pick-up truck, they did the same thing many of us have (shamefully!) done in the past: they flipped her off. However, as opposed to ignoring the bird, the truck driving lady instead decided to run the women off the road, claiming all the while that she was a police officer and the women were under arrest.
While shooting (regrettably vertical) footage and exchanging dialogue that could have come straight out of Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof (admittedly, the Zoe Bell-less first half), the women in the victim car lived to tell their tale to the California Highway Patrol, as you can see in the (at times, unintentionally hilarious) video below.
"This is the craziest shit I have ever seen" shrieks the driver of the pursued vehicle as the pick-up driver repeatedly tries to get them off the road. "I'm fucking freaking out!"
"She's coming for us" screams the passenger to CHP as the pick-up driver gets out of her vehicle and heads towards the women. "Put it in reverse, Vanessa! Put it in reverse!"
According to KXTV (via ABC7), the driver of the pick-up was identified as Deidre Orosco. Police "arrested her on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Ironically, she had just been released from jails [sic] hours earlier on felony hit-and-run charges."
But more than a lesson in irony, this incident holds important lessons for us all as we hit the jam-packed roads this holiday season:
- Rethink the bird: the person you're tempted to flip off might be someone who just got out of jail
- Call the cops: If some lady runs you off the road, drive to the CHP office instead of rolling down your window to chat with her
- Do not fall prey to Vertical Video Syndrome: If you decide to get the whole thing on video, keep your wits about you and turn your godamned phone sideways.
In conclusion, stay safe out there, everyone. But if you can't, then send that video to us!
