An early morning stabbing on Haight Street has sent a man to the hospital with critical injuries, and left the police seeking the public's help to find a suspect.

At around 4 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the 200 block of Haight Street, which is near Laguna Street. When they arrived, they discovered a man who'd been stabbed in the chest, and who had suffered a laceration to his throat, San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Grace Gatpandan said.

According to Hoodline, "police say there were witnesses on the scene," but that "the suspect apparently fled without anyone getting a good look at him."

KTVU reports that police have not yet released a description of the stabbing suspect, and the motive for the attack remains under investigation."

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Gatpandan said. At publication time, he remains in critical condition.

Gatpandan urges anyone who knows anything about the stabbing to call the SFPD's anonymous tip line at 415)-575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the message.
