A Vacaville woman who allegedly hurt three people as she drove into oncoming Bay Bridge traffic was an unlicensed driver who was high on (unspecified) drugs, the California Highway Patrol says.

32-year-old Karrie Lyn Morgan allegedly struck one vehicle, then sideswiped two more as she drove westbound in the eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge near the toll plaza Saturday night at around 8:30 p.m., CHP officials said.

"Wrong way drivers are more common than people realize," said CHP spokesperson Officer Daniel Hill told ABC7.

"But typically what happens is the driver realized their mistake, stops and corrects the error. It's very rare that we see a situation where a driver continues driving."

According to the Chron, authorities are still trying to figure out exactly how Morgan managed to get her vehicle into a position to drive in the eastbound lanes in the wrong direction.

During Morgan's alleged wrong-way rampage, two other drivers suffered minor injuries and one suffered major injuries, Hill said. Those three people, as well as Morgan, were transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment. No update on the victims' conditions were available at publication time.

Emergency response to and a two-hour-long investigation of the crash caused terrible gridlock Saturday, or, as ABC7 put it, "the lower deck of the Bay Bridge basically turned into a parking lot."

According to the CHP, once Morgan's injuries from the collision were treated at SF General, she was booked into SF County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of certain drugs, driving under the influence of drugs that causes injury to another and being an unlicensed driver.
