One man was shot to death and another critically injured in a shooting adjacent to a San Francisco elementary school.

According to San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Gordon Shyy, officers were called to Buchanan and Willow Streets, a narrow bend in the road in the rear of Rosa Parks Elementary School, on reports of gunfire in the area.

When police arrived at about 8:45 Thursday night, Shyy says that they discovered a man suffering from "multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body." He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, and remains there in critical condition today.

A second gunshot victim, who police believe was shot during the same confrontation, arrived at SF General on his own Thursday night, but died from his injuries while at the hospital.

Police were not offering up any details on how they knew the second man's injuries were connected, or how the man got to the hospital, but did say that his identity wouldn't be released until the deceased's family had been notified.

Shyy says that SFPD homicide detectives have taken over the investigation, but that no suspect information was available for release at this time.
