The original silent film Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde is a thrilling American classic—and with the power of live organ music, Dr. Jekyll’s freakish transformation into the evil Mr. Hyde will chill you to your bones.
Legendary stage actor John Barrymore took on this role in 1920, when films—especially horror films—were still new and shocking to the public. Without the help of advanced technology to assist in his transformation, Barrymore relied on his own incredible talents to create the inhuman Mr. Hyde. Initial shots in the film use no make-up or prosthetics: Barrymore simply turns away from the camera with his hands hiding his face, then turns back to reveal grotesquely distorted features.
