An SFist tipster sends us the above photo, saying that this is the scene at Minna and New Montgomery Streets as of 1:45 p.m. Friday.

A bystander tells SFist that "A semi hit a fire hydrant turning on to New Montgomery from Minna...Possibly from the MoMa construction project." However, spokespeople with San Francisco's Department of Public Works and the Public Utilities Commission (which deals with things like water main breaks) hadn't heard about whatever this is when contacted by SFist, but are looking into it for us.

Update: SFPUC spokesperson Charles Sheehan tells SFist that "a very large big rig truck" backed into a fire hydrant, causing the gusher. Sheehan says that the San Francisco Fire Department is on the scene, and will have the geyser turned off momentarily.
