An early morning mugging turned violent Tuesday morning, when a robbery just outside the Asian Art Museum ended in a shooting.

According to San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Gordon Shyy, at about 2:50 this morning, police were called to Hyde and Fulton Streets, just steps from both the Asian Art Museum and the Main branch of the San Francisco Public Library.

Shyy says that a mugger had approached a group of men, demanding their property. "After taking cash from the group, the suspect shot one of the victims in the torso and fled the scene," Shyy says.

The shooting victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital. His condition was unknown at publication time.

Shyy did not have any information on the suspect on the shooting, but as of Tuesday morning, no arrests had been made.
