A twelve-story condo building is slated for approval by Planning in the coming weeks, and it will loom large over the tiny, historic Grubstake though the diner itself is safe for now.
As Socketsite reports, "the existing buildings on the site from 1527 to 1545 Pine Street will be razed to make room for the development" including a small building from 1906 at 1545 Pine that had the potential to stymie this project if it were deemed historically valuable.
The original concept design from 2008 by Stanley Saitowitz/Natoma Architects showed a big glass-walled building with an option to have part of the building hover over Grubstake, but it looks like that's been nixed in favor of a stepped-back building with no overlap.
The plans call for a building with up to 107 for-sale residential units on 12 floors, with 2,700 square feet of ground-floor retail. The design is by Arquitectonica, and the project has been recommended for approval.
