A former Walnut Creek resident, who was a cheerleader and class president at Las Lomas High School, was named Miss America 2015 last night.

As the Merc reports, before moving to New York to attend Hofstra University, Kira Kazantsev was crowned Miss California Jr. Teen and Miss California Preteen. She won Miss America representing New York and received a $50,000 scholarship.

Much like 2014's winner, Nina Davuluri, Kazantsev already has her share of haters who say her "talent" should not have nabbed the top prize.

During the nationally televised pageant, Kazantsev sat down on the stage barefoot, sang Pharrell Williams' song "Happy," and tapped out its beat using a red cup, à la the cups scene in the 2012 movie “Pitch Perfect."

Did Kazantsev's moves come close to Anna Kendrick's? Below, check out both for yourself.
