Details are still scarce after reports that the body of a deceased person was discovered in a lake in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park today.

Recreation and Park Department spokesperson Sarah Ballard confirmed to Bay City News, that an unidentified body was found in a lake in Golden Gate Park Tuesday morning. (A call from SFist to Ballard was not returned at publication time.)

According to San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Albie Esparza, a passerby spotted the body floating in Mallard Lake at 9:55 this morning and called police.

Mallard Lake is located along Martin Luther King Drive near 27th Avenue and Lincoln Way, and is known for its "isolation from crowds."

Esparza tells SFist that the death is not being actively investigated by the SFPD, and "is the medical examiner's case now." He did not have any additional information to provide as of Tuesday afternoon.
