Well, it appears to be official: Apple has just contacted members of the press, with an invitation for a September 9 media event, one that's expected to be the unveiling of the newest iPhone.

“9.9.2014 Wish we could say more,” the invitation reads, telling reporters to meet the tech giant at a performing arts venue in Cupertino at 10 a.m. that Tuesday.

Re/code reports that the company is also expected to announce "a wearable device." Maybe some sort of wristwatchy thing? Or hat? Or belt? We have no idea.

More media reports than we can count have said that there will be two, larger-screened iPhones announced, both which will have more resilient screens, will be equipped with a mobile payment system, and will be running iOS 8, Apple's newest mobile-device operating system.

According to the Associated Press, "This year's gathering may be the most anticipated since Apple Inc. took the wraps off the iPad in 2010." We're still hoping that they just bring out a bunch of hot dogs.
