The fifth movie in the Terminator franchise, Terminator: Genesis, will be filming late tonight, August 4, and early tomorrow, August 5, in two different downtown locations.
As the Chronicle reports, Mission Street between First and Second will be closed from about 11 p.m. tonight until early tomorrow, while California Street and Powell Street will be open with holds on passing traffic from 9 p.m. tonight until 4 a.m. tomorrow.
Both shoots sound action-packed, according to San Francisco Film Commission marketing manager Lauren Machado: On Mission Street, “something computer-generated" will chase extras down the street; at California and Powell, motorized cable cars and stunt cars will be part of some urban chaos scene.
Early reports say the movie will be a tribute to 1984's original Terminator and 1991's Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is the only returning cast member and is joined by Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones) with Alan Taylor directing (Game of Thrones, Thor 2). The estimated release date is July 1, 2015.
Over the weekend, Terminator: Genesis also shot at the Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge, and, last week, inside Oracle's Redwood Shores headquarters. As SFist previously reported, the kids of Oracle founder Larry Ellison, Megan and David, are behind the film and jointly own the rights to the Terminator franchise.
